![]() As many of you are aware,
Harold was scheduled for a hip-replacement on August 6. I am happy to
report that he came through the operation with flying colors, is well on
his way "back to normal", and is looking forward to being able
to do everything he enjoys doing .... pain free! Harold passes along his thanks to everyone who has sent cards and well wishes... and he will be back on the "newsletter circuit" next month. |

Saturday August 23 was the final day of the 2008 Platinum Triangle Poker Run. This year we tested out a
new format - specially designed airport stamps were collected per airport
instead of playing cards ...
the playing cards to be collected at the
host terminus after the hand(s) had all 5 stamps. From all reports so far,
this new format was well accepted.Unfortunately, the weather early Saturday morning looked questionable... but by mid-day had cleared up and the planes started coming in. Blake Evans, manager at Kincardine (host terminus) had a simple but very tasty lunch planned - BBQ'ed hamburgers and hotdogs (which were excellent!!!) Kudos to the BBQ chefs!! By 3:30pm we had our prize winners.... thanks to outstanding judging done by Lee Anne Lehman and her husband Rick. 29 prizes in total were awarded - cash prize winners were: 1st place: $500.00, Vani Monaco; 2nd place: $300.00, Paul Kastner; 3rd place: $200.00, John Lewis; 4th place: $100.00, Cliff Durrwacher; 5th place: $100.00, Larry Meyer. Congratulations to all the winners!!! Preliminary reports state that this year a total of 666 hands were sold, equalling $2705.00, which is slated for the Royal Canadian Air Cadets, Port Elgin & Kincardine Squadrons. Many thanks to all the participants and participating airports this year, the managers and their teams who were available for the week of the run selling and stamping hands: Collingwood, Edenvale, Goderich, Hanover, Kincardine, Midland, Owen Sound, Parry Sound, Port Elgin, Stratford, Tilsonburd, Tobermory, Wiarton and Wingham. Thank you to all the generous donors of prizes; special thanks to cash prizes donors Matchetti Financial, Montgomery Ford, Sutton Park Inn, Meridian Credit Union, and Rowe Motors. A HUGE thank you to helpers for the day who kept things running smoothly during the card collection and judging: Phil, Lee Anne & Rick, Buster & Grace, Lorne & Lorna, Jane & Jenn. Terminus for 2009 is yet to be decided - watch for details! Jenn |
