CO-CAPTAIN's MESSAGE:
On April 22, Lorne Schroeder and I flew down to Hanover/Saugeen Airport (CPN4) to meet new managers, Kim & Phil Mullin.

Kim, a commercial pilot, and his brother Phil, both live in Feversham and decided to bid on the contract to manage this fine airport. As it turns out, I have known Kim for a few years - he used to work at Collingwood Airport when he wasn't flying corporate aircraft.

Kim will continue to fly charter flights in a King Air out of Toronto Pearson, and while he is doing this, Phil will operate the airport.

We wish both Kim & Phil well in their new endeavour!

On a sad note, we say good-bye to manager extraordinare Carol Little of Kincardine. As of May 31, Carol and Dave say goodbye to the Kincardine Airport, and prepare to move into their new home, about 5 km South of Kincardine.

"Carol has been a 17 year contract service provider for the municipality and we are saddened by her decision," said Chief Administrative Officer John deRosenroll.

Kincardine has been one of my favourite places to fly into -- from the moment you arrive within Kincardine's Zone, you were always welcomed and provided with wind conditions and any other local traffic. Once on the ground, you were greeted warmly by both Carol and Dave, the coffeepot was always on, and fuel prices were always at least 9 cents a litre less expensive than other airports in the area.

When I first heard from Carol their decision to move on, I went looking through my photo archives for some of the pictures I have taken over the years. Kincardine has always supported the Platinum Triangle Poker Run, hosting the event in 2004. They did a super job, raising over $2500 of which the local Air Cadets & a Riding Academy for physically challenged children benefited from.

It was always fun to hear from Carol & Dave of their world traveling trips, whether it be Japan, the British Isles, or most recently, Australia.

Carol, both you and Dave will be missed from Kincardine - but we look forward to seeing Dave around the aviation community as he continues his volunteer work as a top-notch "Blue Crew" member. We wish you both well and continued good health.

If you get a chance, drop into Kincardine and say Goodbye before May 31, or drop them an email of best wishes.

On Saturday, (May 5), our local radio station announced on air that an Ultralight aircraft had a near-accident at the Wiarton Airport (CYVV) on Friday. It was stated that the plane was forced to land after experiencing engine trouble, and doing this caused damage the undercarriage of the plane. The police were investigating and Transport Canada had been called.

According to Airport Manager Doug Sykes, what really happened is as follows. On Friday Morning, a couple whose Ultralight Chinook Plus 2 is registered in Toronto, flew into Wiarton, parked their plane and borrowed two courtesy bicycles to cycle into town for lunch. They returned to CYVV and departed safely. They later had a forced landing in Georgian Bluffs, fortunately with only slight damage to their landing gear and no injuries to themselves.

Happy Flying!
