Earlier this month, the Poker Run Committee finalized and assembled the 2008 Poker Run kits, then turned them over to Lorne
Schroeder and myself to deliver. We met with Blake Evans (A/P manager,
Kincardine, host terminus 2008) and divided the kits between the three of us for personal delivery. A few days later, Lorne and I flew to Wingham to meet with Rod Hickey (manager of Wingham A/P) to go over the
rules. This is Wing
ham's first year participating with us and their enthusiasm is contagious! Just a week after our visit, I received an email from Rod saying that they had sold all their poker hands and needed more! All participating airports have now received their kits, and we are looking forward to another successful Poker Run year! On May 13, I visited COPA Flight #69 (Stratford). I presented the 406 ELT power point to the 14 members in attendance and COPA's position.
We were pleasantly surprised to be joined by Bruce McPherson, owner of Pointer Avionics (located in nearby Breslau ON), who gave a talk on his new 406 ELT that has been developed and is currently in the process of receiving approval from Transport Canada and the FAA in the US. He expects to have this approval late September, early October of this year. This unit will be competitively priced with the 406 ELT currently on the market, will have GPS capabilities (antenna installed on your aircraft for this) and can be mass produced at 2000 units per month, 3000 if needed - but now that Transport Canada has extended the deadline date of February 1, 2009 to February 1, 2011, it will take the pressure off immediate installation! The main features of the Eileen Vollick Parkette are now finished, thanks to our superb volunteers under direction of landscape designer Judy Gay. |
On the day of planting the trees and
shrubs Mother Nature decided to rain on our parade, but that didn't
stop volunteers John Burt, Wes Beacock, Bob Dolphin, Lorne Schroeder,
and Buster Wood! They carried on in the rain and completed the
job, even after having to dig out a 300 pound boulder that was in the way of planting a cedar bush.A BIG THANKS to the team! With the memorial marker in place, all that needs to be done is the inscription on the stone, which is set for mid-July. It is with great
pleasure that we inform you that our airport restaurant is under new
management and will officially open for business on June 12. Welcome to
co-owners/operators Anna Jean Bradley, Rebecca Johnson Morelli, Grant
Bradley-Low, Emily Bradley-Low & Glyneva Bradley-Ridout. The menu is based around locally grown/raised products, including Kemble Mountain Roastery Coffees and Elk Burgers. Soups, Salads, Sandwiches & Brunch specials will change weekly to feature seasonal produce. Prior to our COPA meeting on Saturday, Anna Jean, Emily and Glyneva served our members a "sneak peak" preview breakfast. All had glowing remarks about the service quality & taste of the food. Next time you are visiting CYVV make sure you stop into the "new" Rooftop Cafe! Until next month! Harold Fry co-Captain COPA Flight #68 CYVV |
