CO-CAPTAIN's MESSAGE:
Flight #68 held their annual election of officers at our regular monthly meeting, and we are pleased to say that our 2007 executive was unanimously voted in for 2008: Captain, Hank Nuis; co-Captain, Harold Fry; Treasurer, Joan Bulmer. Glenn Goodyear, with help from Monty Bennett will continue to spread sunshine to any of our members who are under the weather, and Paul Kastner has agreed to don his "press" hat and keep his pen and paper handy!

Some of you may have heard that the has been a question of rightful ownership of the Wiarton Airport (CYVV). This issue has been in discussion for the past year between the two municipalities, and they are now taking the matter to court to resolve it. Physically 93% of the Airport property is located in Georgian Bluffs, while the other 7% is located in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula. We only hope that this can be resolved in a peaceful manner and we can continue on with the building and promoting of this outstanding facility. Unfortunately the forward momentum of the Wiarton Airport has been grounded to a halt while we wait for a settlement of this dispute.
Recently the Owen Sound Sun Times published an article in their newspaper outlining the details of this issue quite well; click here to read it.

Last month, I mentioned that I would be starting my visits as a COPA director to individual flights, starting with Burlington on November 30 (Friday). As their meetings are held in the evening, I had the car packed and was all set to leave Friday morning ... but Old Man Winter had another agenda for me! At one point, he dumped 9" of snow on us in an hour - I couldn't get out of the driveway to the equally snow covered roads! After blowing the driveway 3 times, contacting the roads department and the OPP (both of which advised me that travel conditions were not desirable) I let the sprite have his fun and returned to the warmth of indoors to call Doug Martin, (Captain of Flight #28, Burlington) while the white stuff swirled around us.

I have rescheduled Burlington for March 8, and hopefully, unless Old Man Winter decides to mess with us again, I will be visiting these flights in the next few months:
Flight #144, Owen Sound - December 3 (meeting canceled due to weather)
Flight #84, Edenvale - January 26
Flight #95, Windsor - February 16
Flight #28, Burlington - March 8
Flight #69, Stratford - May 13
I look forward to meeting everyone!

On behalf of everyone here at COPA Flight #68 and the Wiarton Airport,
Happy Holidays and all the best for a safe and Happy New Year.

Harold Fry
co-Captain
