Welcome Spring! It's great to be back in the air!
CYVV had a quiet winter - no major catastrophes due to the weather (phew!)

On March 6/09 Wiarton Airport had a Hercules C130 Aircraft (owned & operated by Bradley Air Services Ltd., located in Kanata Ontario) land to pick up a large earth moving machine, on its way to Great Slave Lake in the Northwest Territories. While visiting we understand they purchased 11,000 litre of fuel! Although I was not present at the airport the pictures and story were relayed to us by fellow COPA member Lorne Schroeder. Lorne told us that on takeoff the big "Herc" used up most of our 5021 feet of runway!
Thanks Lorne! (more pix of the Herc our this year at the airport page)

With the winds gusting 30-40mph a few days later on the 11th, it was impossible to fly to Guy Doherty's 9th Annual Winter Service Seminar (held at the Billy Bishop Airport in Owen Sound), but that didn't stop the 68 aviation enthusiasts from attending the event.

As usual, Guy Doherty had a fine day lined up with 6 outstanding speakers holding seminars on both floors. Wayne Juniper of Transport Canada spoke about maintenance issues we face; Kevin Psutka, President and CEO of COPA presented an update on the 406 ELT issue and spoke on General Aviation; Greg Mansell from Leavens Aviation presented information and tips on Engine Care and Winter Storage; Carl Bertrand from Discount Avionics discussed the different types of 406 ELT'S available from his company; George Dailide from Leavens Aviation spoke of propeller issues; and Will Kalyn, also from Leavens Aviation had a display and discussion on Aircraft Products. Audience participation was excellent throughout the afternoon and the day was enjoyed by all. As the day drew to a close, Guy doled out his usual array of excellent door prizes and made sure our stomachs were filled with piping hot pizza before we left with our recurrency sticker for our individual log books.
Guy has already started preparing next years event, which will mark his 10th anniversary of Winter Maintenance Service Seminars. He promises it will be bigger and better than ever! On behalf of all the participants we would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Guy, and we will see you next year!
