CO-CAPTAIN's MESSAGE:
The weather was on our side this year for our Young Eagles Day!!
Saturday, June 19 was a fine day for flying, and 38 youngsters experienced the thrill of being in the air. Special thanks to Danielle Paterson, coordinator and extra "goodies" provider; George McGuire for his expert grilling skills and not burning ALL of the 'dogs; Buster Wood, who took the kids on their pre-flight walk-around, Joan Bulmer and "our Jenn" who kept things running smoothly at the registration desk; pilots Lorne Schroeder and Harold Fry; all the ground crew: Bob White, Monty Bennett, John Burt, Glenn Goodyear, Alan Hutchinson, Lorna Schroeder; Paul Kastner, who wrote a fantastic article for the Wiarton Echo about the event; and last but certainly not least, Solways Garden Market IGA, our Young Eagles sponsor, who donated the food and beverages for the event. Thank-You Everyone!! |
On June 22, Lorne Schroeder and myself planned to fly into Oshawa and take in the Canadian Aviation Show, but after checking the weather reports (wind gusts of 28 knots) we decided to drive instead. Glad we did!! Upon arrival, we learned from Dave Little of the Blue Crew that winds were expected to reach 30+ knots! A couple of tents had already succumbed to the wind and were collapsed. Reports show that attendance was down from last year, but there was still a large number of aircraft suppliers there: Cirius, Cessna Piper and Diamond to name a few. After visiting with many old friends, we stopped at an outdoor exhibit sight of Wings over Canada. It was a great pleasure to meet and chat with the show's host, John Lovelace, who is one of the most friendly and approachable individuals I have met in a long time. We spent some time discussing wilderness flying in Northern B.C., took some photos and said our farewells, with the hopes to meet again on a less windy day!

| On Friday, June 29, a Cessna 150 owned by Blake Evans flying school flew from Kincardine to Edenvale, with a male pilot and female passenger. From all reports their runway of choice was 08, with strong gusting winds from the northwest. The aircraft drifted off the runway twice, never did touch, and the pilot decided to go around and applied power. The three wheels touched a pile of earth that was off to the side of the runway and the bird flipped over, landing on its back. The aircraft is a total loss, but the good news is, neither pilot or passenger were injured! |
| Don't forget that the Collingwood Classic Aircraft Foundation is holding their annual Gathering of the Classics at Edenvale Airport (CNV8) on August 4. This is always a fun day for all and one that should not be missed! Loads of prizes, great food and outstanding fellowship await you.
|
Lorne and myself are scheduled to fly to Oshkosh, Wisc., on July 22 to attend the largest aviation show in North America ... watch for a summary and photos of the trip in next month's newsletter!
